Stass buys Mulligan's after the Tee-off

The weather was very mild with a high temp of 76 degrees and light wind of 6 mph (WSW). The 6th annual Beat the General Golf tournament was held July 19, 2009.

Ten OIF/ OEF veteran soldiers were sponsored to play and enjoy dinner via the generosity of Parker Hannifin Corp, Takata Corporation, Waltonen Engineering, AMTANK Armor, SAF-Holland USA, Diversified Solutions Group and Pro-Weld.

Though the temperature was mild, the competition was 'hot'. Beat the General course records were set in teams' scores under 60 strokes on a par 72 course. There is a direct correlation to having sold more Mulligan's than ever before. Twelve hundred dollars in Mulligans were sold just prior to tee-off. Joel Dahlenburg and Andy Stass then received last minute additions bringing the total pot to $1,270. Mulligan "Arm-buster", John Robinson tried to claim over $1,300, but neglected to deduct the petty cash for change placed in the envelope prior to play.

Tournament founder, Andy Stass had a bitter-sweat day. He has preached over and over again, "You don't want to embarrass a General Officer." Andy has (year after year) made sure that the Generals have been well supported by able bodied golfers to assure a safe win for the General.

General Ogg's team garnered a 16 under par, which in most years would have given them first place. This year however, the score garnered second prize.

GDLS RG-31 MRAP team captain led by Andy Stass was bolstered by players, Jim Kulbacki, Vaughn Hounslow and Craig Beyer. They took first place shooting a 55 or 17 under par.

Third place by only one stroke was Thermo Materials shooting 15 under par. Captain Rick Bronder was joined by Jesse Cavasoz, Dave Hennessy and Rick Stokes.

Women's' prizes went to Cathy Wank as she walked away with longest drive and closest to the pin. Tom Messner led the men with Closest to the pin while Craig Beyer had the longest drive.

photosTwenty-six teams (or 100 golfers) played, setting another tournament record. Photos of the event are displayed showing golfers having fun while supporting the cause of Youth for Christ Military Youth Ministries, also known as Club Beyond®.

Following dinner, golfers listened intently and gave (student) Jen Dawson a heartfelt standing ovation after sharing her touching experience: through the help of God and the support of the Club Beyond staff, Jen triumphed over unbelievable life traumas.

Jen speaks regularly for Youth for Christ at free "See the Story" events. For information about the next "See the Story," contact sccyfc@comcast.net or call 810-982-9551.
