LTG Dave Heebner (R), President of GDLS

Heebner photoDavid K. Heebner was named president of Land Systems on July 1, 2005 succeeding Charles M. Hall. He is also a senior vice president of General Dynamics.

Prior to joining General Dynamics, Heebner had served 33 years in the U.S. Army. During his active duty career, he had been director of Program Analysis and Evaluation for the Army, assistant division commander of the Army’s 2nd Armored Division, director of Theater Missile Defense for the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization. He also held several command positions overseas, including command of Task Force Patriot Defender in Israel during the Gulf War. He became the assistant vice chief of staff for the U.S. Army in July 1997. He retired from active duty in December 1999 as a lieutenant general.

As President of General Dynamics Land Systems, he is responsible for the development, production and support of numerous systems for customers around the world which include the Abrams Tank, Stryker, Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, Future Combat System Manned Ground Vehicle and Light Armored Vehicle.

Heebner was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. He received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1967 and master’s degrees in operations research and in national security and strategic studies from the Naval Postgraduate School and the Naval War College in 1976 and 1986, respectively.
