Brigadier General R. David Ogg, Jr.
Brigadier General R. David Ogg, Jr. is the Program Executive Officer (PEO) Ground Combat Systems (GCS) located at Warren, Michigan. As the PEO, BG Ogg is responsible for developing, acquiring, fielding and sustaining the Army Ground Combat Systems. Some of the systems include: the Abrams tank systems, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle systems, the Stryker Brigade Combat Team vehicles, Joint Lightweight Howitzer and Robotic Systems.
BG Ogg entered the Army upon his commissioning as a second lieutenant in the branch of Infantry and graduation from Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in 1978.
BG Ogg's initial assignment was in Germany with the 8th Infantry Division (Mechanized), 1st Battalion 13th Infantry, Baumholder, FRG. He was assigned as an Infantry platoon leader, weapons (mortars) platoon leader, scout platoon leader, and Company Executive Officer. Prior to returning to CONUS he received a branch transfer to Armor, his current branch. He was then assigned to Ft. Knox as a Cavalry Troop Commander and then a Brigade Assistant Operations Officer, S-3 Office. His subsequent assignment was as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at MTSU.
BG Ogg's acquisition experience began in 1988 with the US Army Test and Evaluation Command, Combat Systems Test Activity, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland as a Test and Evaluation Officer with a follow on assignment to the Headquarters as the Secretary to the General Staff. BG Ogg's next assignment, Aug 92 to Jun 95, was as the Project Director with the Project Manager for Instrumentation, Targets and Threat Simulators, US Army Simulation, Training and Instrumentation Command, Orlando, Florida. Following this, he was moved to the Targets, Test and Evaluation Directorate, US Army Space and Strategic Defense Command, Huntsville, Alabama. From Sep 96 to Jul 99, was assigned as the Product Manager for the M113 Family of Vehicles, US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command. BG Ogg was then assigned to the Program Executive Office, Ground Combat and Support Systems in Jul 00, and became the Project Manager for the Stryker Brigade Combat Team in Jan 01 until Jun 04. He was then assigned to TRADOC's Future Center as Chief, Capabilities Integration Division from Aug 04 to Jun 06. BG Ogg served as Deputy Program Manager, Future Combat Systems (Brigade Combat Team), Program Integration (Network/Complementary Programs) from Jul 06 to Aug 07. From Aug 07 to Oct 08, BG Ogg was assigned as the Deputy Program Manager, Future Combat Systems (Brigade Combat Team) Program, Platforms.
BG Ogg's military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ft. Benning, Georgia; the Armor Officer Advance Course, Ft. Knox, Kentucky; the Materiel Acquisition Management Course, Ft. Lee, Virginia; Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas; the Defense Systems Management College, Program Manager's Course, Ft. Belvoir, Virginia; and the 1999-2000 Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Ft. McNair, DC, where he earned a Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy.
BG Ogg's awards include the Legion of Merit (three oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Ribbon.
